Vision2Voice Volunteers with Food Bank for the Heartland

On September 14th, the V2V team in Omaha stepped out of the office and made our way through the doors of the Food Bank for the Heartland. Throughout the morning we had the amazing opportunity to give back to the community by filling bags for children in the “backpack program.”

V2V Volunteers with FBH

The backpack program is a partnership between Food Bank for the Heartland and Nebraska schools, where the food bank donates bags filled with breakfast and lunches for the weekend when many kids may not have the resources to eat otherwise. According to Food Bank for the Heartland, 1 in 6 kids within the Food Bank’s area are at risk for hunger. During the week, FBH distributes an average of 8,464 packs, which equates to 33,856 meals available for area children in need.

Last year, the Omaha team took a hands-on approach to this volunteer program, assembly line style. This year, we returned to do the same and with the help of other volunteers, produced a record-breaking number of over 1,600 bags filled that day– in just 3 ½ hours!

We value the opportunity to give back to our community and organizations whose missions are to improve the lives of others. A special thank you to the Food Bank for the Heartland for allowing us the opportunity to volunteer and provide meals to children in need.
